Wife on Fire Challenge {Week 3}: A Marriage on Fire

Wife on Fire 2018 {Week 3} Feature Image

If you participated in last year’s Wife on Fire Challenge, then you have a pretty good idea of what it means to be a Wife on Fire. And if you’ve been following along here on the blog for any length of time recently, then you know how passionate I am about intentional marriage and making the effort when it comes to strengthening your marriage into a Marriage on Fire.

We have reached the halfway point of this year’s Wife on Fire Challenge—two weeks down, two to go. Here’s what we’ve covered so far:

The Wife on Fire Challenge is all about choosing intentional marriage and making the effort in the name of love. It is about founding and grounding your marriage in faith and discipline. It is about letting God teach you what it means to love your spouse.

But, let’s be honest, to really, really have a Marriage on Fireit takes two.

Now, I’m a big believer that as a Wife on Fire you, alone, can make a big and lasting impact on your marriage. You can set your Marriage on Fire.

But getting your hubby on board will take your marriage to the next level.

Song of Solomon 8:6b-7a {NLT} Wife on Fire Challenge Verse

A Marriage on Fire has a burning flame, the passion is alive and well, and the two partners build up and encourage one another, constantly refueling the fire.

Getting your Hubby on Board

So, how do you do it? What’s the secret to getting your hubby on board with the Marriage on Fire concept?

Well, I don’t have all the answers for you. But I can give you a few pointers I’ve worked out over the years. Give ‘em a try and let me know if any work for you!

  • Communicate Openly: Hopefully your marriage is already about open communication. If so, sit down and have a heart to heart with your husband about your needs and love languages in your marriage. Tell him you want to have a Marriage on Fire. Tell him you will do your part as a Wife on Fire and ask him to step up as a Husband on Fire for his marriage, too!
  • Annual Marriage Retreat: Refuel the fire by taking time every year to dig a little deeper, without distraction, and really ground your marriage in faith. One annual retreat, even a DIY version, can get you both on track for a Marriage on Fire all year long.
  • Marriage Goals: Is your hubby goal-oriented? If so, consider having a conversation over dinner about where he wants to see your marriage in six months, a year, or even five years. Then, set realistic goals to work toward a Marriage on Fire.
  • Couples Group: Make a point to go to church together. If you don’t already have a church home, find one you think you’d enjoy attending and be sure to invite your husband along. Then, after awhile, see what small groups your church is offering. Do they have a Couples Group? Put yourself in the presence of other Christians working through marriage with the same priorities. Surround yourself with peers you want to be influenced by.
  • Just Make the Effort: The power of example is often under-rated. I really feel like if you do your part as a Wife on Fire for your marriage long enough, and consistently enough, you might just get yourself a Husband on Fire out of the deal! Just be patient, and do your part for a Marriage on Fire for now.

You know your marriage better than I do. So you know the best approach with your husband. Maybe you have a relationship in which you can just lay it all out there and talk out what you are seeking in your marriage relationship. Maybe you simply need to invite him to join in on the intentional efforts. Maybe you need to slyly leave The 5 Love Languages on his nightstand.

Or maybe you need to just keep making the effort and secretly get him on board without him realizing he’s even participating in creating a Marriage on Fire!

You get to decide on the method–this week is all about getting your man on board to fan the flame of your marriage!

Wife on Fire Challenge – Week 3 Intentional Effort

Here’s this week’s Wife on Fire Challenge:

Wife on Fire Challenge 2018 -- Week 3 Challenge

Yup, this week is about the hubs and creating a Marriage on Fire. The best way I know to do that, to get on the same page and rekindle a bit of that love, is to get away for a minute, just the two of you.

So, plan yourselves a little honeymoon getaway—and soon! Of course, you don’t need to go for broke here—stay in budget and be realistic, but make it happen in the near future, don’t wait too long or the moment may pass you by.

Maybe your anniversary is coming up, and it’s a big one. Take a trip you’ve been dreaming about together. Maybe you can take a long holiday weekend and do something touristy in the region. Or just plan a local night out on the town and stay at a hotel for a change of scenery.

The details aren’t a big deal here. It is about the intention behind the action; it is about making time for just the two of you. To reconnect. To rekindle. To strengthen your Marriage on Fire

I hope you can say that you and your marriage are benefiting from this year’s Wife on Fire Challenge. Maybe it is inspiring you to make more of an effort in your relationship. Or it’s opened your eyes to making intentional marriage a priority in your life.

  1. If I were younger and starting over, and as strong in my faith as I am now, I would definitely have an intentional marriage! Now, 40 years of marriage, the best thing is we do talk about everything.
I like the idea of slyly leaving something for him to read, works for me to not be so obvious!

    1. Communication is a cornerstone of an intentional marriage so you are on the right track. And I know you are living your life as an example and a testimony…I’m not sure you even realize the impact you are making by living out your daily life grounded in your faith. Maybe you’ll win this book so you can leave it for him to find soon! 🙂 Wildland Man is so not a reader, so that little tip I shared wouldn’t work for him at all! Thanks for reading and commenting! You are entered to win the 2018 Wife on Fire Challenge Giveaway with this comment!!!
