Wow, hello fellow Fire Wife! I'm so, so happy you found Country Wife Chronicles! I am honored to have you here and so grateful for the opportunity to encourage and support one another in our faith and in our roles as encouraging and supportive Wildland Fire Wives. I absolutely remember my first fire season as a Wildland Firefighter's Wife. And I, too, hope to encourage my husband in a career he has fallen in love with. I've shared some of my experiences and lessons learned here on the blog and hope that they might bring you some tips and ideas for getting through the season. Can I just say, I feel you...I really do. Even after years of being in this Fire Life, I feel the same. Wildland Man is currently out of state on a lengthy fire detail and someone was asking me when he'd be home. My coping mechanism? I said, "I'm not sure, but I'm planning on a month--that way if he gets to come home early it's a surprise and I'm not disappointed!" You get this life, just as I do, and in that connection we can relate and support one another. Please check out the "Fire Life" tab for more from me in the realm of Wildland Firefighting. Also, be watching for our second annual "Wife on Fire" Challenge--to be announced soon! I'd love to have you participate! Thanks again for dropping by and feel free to reach out anytime you are needing a little encouragement. Be Still & Know...

I know I'm commenting on a post nearly a year old, but I wanted to say "Thank You!" Like you, I was scouring the internet for encouragement - particularly Christian encouragement - for wildland fire wives. Yours is the only faith-centered one that comes up! I married my wonderful Wildland firefighter last October. He has been in wildland fire for years and loves it. My goal was to learn to love it for his sake, and be an encouragement and cheerleader for him. Our dating/engagement days gave me a taste of what was to come, but I was working full time then and busy planning a wedding. Now my first "real" fire season has come, and it is definitely bringing the scum of my nature to the surface! Who knew independent, cheerful, encouraging me would become an emotional basket case who can sometimes only cry into the phone when he says he won't be home when he expected? :) I have read a couple of your posts, and already appreciate how bracing they are. Looking forward to reading them all! God bless you!

First, I enjoy reading Country Wife! You are a woman of Faith and you bring comfort, thank you!
I accept this challenge because I need it! We have been married for 39 years and the honeymoon is long over. I know the covenant of marriage is strong for both of us, but I think after so long, we tend to not make a lot of effort to "US".
Prayers!
